Thoughtful gifting
How to choose a planter they will love
A pretty pot is only part of the story. Think about size, placement and the plant before choosing a gift for a greenery lover.
For the friend whose windowsill is already full, another plant is not always the answer. A well-chosen planter can give an existing favourite a fresh setting. The trick is to consider the space and the plant together: where it will stand, how large its nursery pot is and what sort of finish they enjoy.

01
For a compact shelf
Sass & Belle’s Mini Handle Planter has an earthy finish and three colour choices: blush, brick and sand. It is a good starting point for someone who likes smaller decorative pieces. Check the opening against their plant pot, and remember each colour is sold separately.

02
For a little height and character
The Tall Leggy Planter pairs a face design with a black wire stand. Its listed overall dimensions are 14 × 14 × 30cm, so allow for the stand when planning the spot. Those measurements do not tell you the internal planting space; check that separately.

03
For a more architectural look
The Elevare planter sits on a four-legged platform and comes in a range of colours. Its raised shape suits someone who likes sculptural objects as much as greenery. The listing describes a 120mm size, but confirm the usable opening and drainage arrangement for their particular plant.

04
For someone who would rather skip plant care
A vase for dried stems can be a thoughtful alternative. The 3D-printed Luna Vase is listed at 170mm tall and can also stand alone as a decorative object. Choose this route if you want to give them a lovely shape without adding another living thing to care for.
A desk corner with a little warmth
Pair a Mini Handle Planter with the willow phone and tablet stand for someone who works from home. The soft pot colour and wood grain sit comfortably together. Leave room around the keyboard and let them choose a plant suited to the light at their desk.
A couple of little questions
Can I plant straight into a decorative pot?
Check the product’s drainage and planting instructions first. Where appropriate, keep the plant in a draining inner pot, lift it out to water and let it drain before putting it back. Do not leave water collected around the roots.
Does the plant in the photograph come with it?
These picks are for the planter or vase unless the product page explicitly says otherwise. Treat plants and dried stems shown in styling as separate items.
